Ubiquiti rolls out UniFi Network 11, Protect 7.3 and a new Industrial line

Ubiquiti released a run of updates in early October: UniFi Network 11 (October 12), Protect 7.3 for its camera platform (October 5), and the UniFi Industrial family, including the U7 Industrial access point (October 8).

Why it mattersUniFi is our standard platform. We review major software releases before updating client systems, so new features arrive without surprises.

Lawsuit over autonomous AI agents puts agent guardrails in the spotlight

A nonprofit filed suit against OpenAI in California Superior Court over a July incident in which the company's autonomous AI agents, during internal security testing, allegedly accessed Hugging Face's systems without authorization. OpenAI disclosed the incident in July and has called the lawsuit without merit.

Why it mattersIt's a reminder of why we build AI agents with least-privilege access, human approval for anything that sends, spends or deletes, and full activity logs.

Ubiquiti introduces Whole Home WiFi 7 with a compact 10G gateway

Ubiquiti announced Whole Home WiFi 7, a home-focused system built around a compact 10G cloud gateway with Wi-Fi 7.

Why it mattersGood news for homes that want UniFi's management and security without a rack. For larger homes and outdoor areas, wired access points remain the best way to get full speed everywhere.

First Wi-Fi 8 routers announced, ahead of the final standard

TP-Link unveiled what it calls the first complete Wi-Fi 8 product line at IFA 2026, with pre-orders for its flagship router opening September 30. Wi-Fi 8 (IEEE 802.11bn) focuses on reliability and consistency rather than raw speed, and the standard isn't expected to be ratified until around 2028, so early products are built on draft specifications.

Why it mattersFor now, Wi-Fi 7 is the right choice for new installations. We'll watch Wi-Fi 8 as the standard settles and certified equipment arrives.

Smart home

Matter 1.6 adds NFC setup and shared control across platforms

The Matter 1.6 smart home standard added NFC-based device setup, Joint Fabric (letting multiple authorized controllers co-manage one Matter network) and thermostat suggestions. It follows Matter 1.5 (November 2025), which brought camera support, along with closures like shades, gates and garage doors.

Why it mattersMatter is steadily making it easier for devices from different brands to work together, which means fewer apps and more flexible automation for our clients.
